AI prepares. People decide.

The useful split in business software is not human versus machine. It is who prepares the work, and who is accountable for what goes out.

AI · Approvals · Operating model

Most AI pitches collapse two jobs into one: finding what to do, and doing it. That is why so many tools feel reckless. Drafting a message is cheap. Sending it under your name is not.

Mako is built around a simpler split. Software can watch the market, rank opportunities, and prepare the next move. A person in the business still decides what is true, what is allowed, and what actually goes out.

Preparation is the bottleneck, not judgment

Owner-led teams are not short on opinions. They are short on time to turn a messy market into a short list, a draft, and a reason. That is the part AI is good at — if it is working from the business in front of it, not a generic prompt.

Judgment is different. Pricing, claims about results, who to contact, and when to stay quiet are decisions a company has to own. If software takes those for you, you inherit its mistakes in public.

Approval is a product rule, not a setting

In Mako, drafts wait. Editing after approval sends the work back for review. That is not an admin toggle buried in settings. It is how the platform behaves, including for Mako itself.

  • Nothing sends without a person on that tenant approving it.
  • The system does not invent pricing, coverage, or results.
  • Workspaces are provisioned. There is no public signup.

What to measure instead of activity

If you only count drafts generated, the software will generate more drafts. Count conversations a person wanted to have, and wins they logged with a real number. That is how you tell whether the preparation was worth the time.

The promise is not that AI runs the business. It is that people spend the week on customers and relationships, while the system does the sorting and the first draft.
